Laughlin Weekend No Cycling

Hit up Laughlin again.  Heck,  I don't waste a dime gambling so I bought bike stuff instead.  $20 here and there so Gina better not complain seeing she and her mother will dump a quick 3 or 4 undress bucks. I don't get it. Last time we went,  her mother dropped like 250 in the first 30 minutes.  What?! And they think it's fun!

Not me, like I said,  $20 here and there for my bike  stuff. Light mounts, gps base, some conductive gel, I'm good. 😄

So I go to Laughlin for the food which really isn't that good.  But I still enjoy getting out. I did go big and spend $3.79 for a McDonald's cheeseburger 🍔.  Small plain cheeseburger,  the 25 cent burger fo$3.79???? WTF!!!! Even asked the cashier,  are you sure?

Oh well, did get a few pics and memories.

Solo 20 EZ Sunday

Very easy 20 on San Gabe.  Pico to the dam and back. Tried keeping my heart rate down in 120s. Takes discipline to make oneself go easy.

Strange enough,  I was going very easy but didn't see one rider pass me on the 10 miles up and not one on the way down.  Quite a few riders out there but not one passing me from behind.  Very strange while riding that easy.

In other parts of the world,  I continue to be annoyed by how pathetic cyclists are with their attitudes with drivers. I saw a post on Facebook about angling headlights down in order to avoid blinding others. Pic of two cyclists and the beam, cartoon type image.

But right away,  some pathetic moron says ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS GET DRIVERS TO TURN DOWN THEIR HIGH BEAMS.  Really?  I don't think I've ever seen an accident,  incident,  or situation posted by a cyclist thst didn't get turned around blaming a driver for the situation.

C'mon man, talking about bikes and it goes to the driver blame. Take some responsibility would you!

Been riding at night fairly often,  never been blinded by a car. Honestly,  I have my eyes focused ahead of me watching out for hard to see debris in the road trying to stay safe.

Now if you're on the road at night focusing on oncoming vehicular lights, you're a freaking moron for blinding yourself. MOF, I have been blinded on the road once. By an ebike on the wrong side of the road in the dark of night  heading towards me in my bike lane, moron! So much I had to just about pull over to a stop trying to figure out what was going on.

Then on the bike trail.  Groups of 3 or 4 riders running obnoxious strobes, in the light of day, bike trail,  no cars, obnoxious Blinding strobes.

Another time by a group ride leader who said one should never use a strobe in traffic at night because a cyclist could confuse a driver making him think the strobe is from an emergency vehicle.  Ok yeah but the idiot puts a white light on his seat pack riding in a group of 20 ish on a bike trail.

Yeah   2 or 3 times I almost panicked thinking another cyclist was coming head on with me. What a dope!

But yet as always,  blame a driver for your lak of skill and attention.

I remember years ago,  a cyclist was found dead o the side of the road.  All comments were about trying to find the killer driver who was texting not paying attention.  My first thought was, had there been a driver involved?

Oh man, I was the cyclist hater but then turns out tge guy was cycling early morning   hit a grating in the road, solo flipped breaking his neck. Poor guy, I feel sorry but feel just as bad for the killer driver who was accused but never even existed. Too many haters out there.

I'm probably the only guy I know who gets a little box for a dollar,  lines with foam to use as a carrying case for my GPS and HR monitor. Little box with a foam taco type sleeve to protect my HR monitor. 😄

Solo 40 (video later)

Solo 40 miles at 16.9 average speed according to Strava, 17.0 to Bryton GPS. 😄 Did latch on a group for about 3 or 4 miles leaving the coast. They turned off into a park. But felt good and able to hold my heart rate up in upper zones. Did see Danny and Eduardo at the end of the ride. They saw me at the coast shouting my name. I heard something so I turned my head to look but didn't see them and thought some homeless people might be yelling at me. 😆😄😆

RELIVE Video

You tube brief chat with Danny and Eduardo.

You know, it was a good thing Tony gave me this HR monitor.  My max should be 160 at my age of 60. Though I have gone higher, I guess that is a good thing feeling no discomfort other than a hard effort.  But the numbers have shown me that I was slacking  as I mentioned before.  I remember having to try hard to keep 150 for 20 percent of my ride.  Now I'm doing much better numbers.  Today I stayed in 150s for quite some time.  So it seems that showing me that I have not put in much effort lately,  aiming higher has actually helped me pick up the pace. So that's a good thing.  Heck, some say I should reassess my max, it's no big thing because just seeing any number helps me realize I should be trying a little harder.

Like without the monitor,  I would hold an effort and think I deserved to be tired. The monitor pretty much told me, Oh stop being a baby, you're not even trying that hard. Seeing a number really helps if you ask me.

Thursday Nite Bike Ride

Solo 20 mile ride from Glendora to Laverne and back.  Testing a go pro battery I picked up on ebay for about 7 bucks.  It worked fine. Also an ebay light, making my 4th. A little overkill but it worked.  I  think 3 is best and easier to fit ha ha ha.

Getting dark sooner now. Seems I'm starting my rides in the dark which is about 6:30.

But it's all good and fun. 😄

I do love my ankle bands though.  I think the motion does wonders for being noticed on the road.

Solo 20 Recovery

Solo 20 miles, nice and easy recovery ride. Nice thing about heart rate monitors. I can tell how hard I'm trying. Yesterday 80% in zone 4 and above. Today I barely came out of zone 3. I rode like a Drunk Bastard like my jersey says. 😆😄😆

Did see Eyemage at the start. Caught him on video so I should have a little something later on.

For no, the relive video

Solo SART

Solo 46 miles at 16.1 average speed. Tried keeping my heart rate at 140 or more. Did pretty good. There and above for 80% of the ride. 😃 Running low on electrolytes so happy to return home and find Gina bought me 2 bags. 😄

Dude down the way from me in upcoming video at the coast. I've been out riding before when the guy takes my wheel as I pass. Then sprints around several times. Gets on my nerves so I pull over and let him pass.

Last time riding with Tony,  I saw him heading back at the soccer fields when we blew by him. So I figure he does well to that point then fades. Today I saw him at the coast.  As soon as I get ready to leave,  he jumps up. So I take my time hoping he will leave, he doesn't.  I'm messing around so he sits back down.  One of those morons who always wants to race so he can say, I beat that guy.

So finally I actually have to leave this time and yes, he jumps up again.  I head out then he's right behind me. Spinning up my legs, he goes by. Little mirror so I know he's watching me. I let him get about 150 yards ahead.  He's doing well but I'm waiting for the soccer fields and that sign of weakness.

Sure enough I see him slow a bit then I pick it up.  Now I'm about 50 behind and I see his reactions.  He's trying to pick it up as well. Oh yeah, I have my front blinking light so it's easy for him to pick me out, I planned it that way.

He picked it up so I wait for his next slip up. Finally I catch him but catch my breath.  Thrn I just put UT down so he couldn't latch on. I did feel like I was going to bust a lung but I wanted to hammer this guy! 😄

Once we hit Edna, I saw him try to close the gap on the bridge. Once I hit the pavement again   I put on one more time. Saw him coming but then fade back. So I kept it up to drive in the final nail into the ⚰️ coffin.

He faded big time after that so I was quite happy.  Next time I see him, I'll just put a big smile in his face! 😁

No Ride, Laughlin

So I've been feeling good on the bike watching my heartrate but I thought it might be time for something different.  So this weekend,  I headed for Laughlin.  Took Gina and her mom. Nice comfortable relaxing little trip.

Of course I don't gamble so I spend most my time people watching and eating when I can.

Took a few pics with my camera that I have to check out but I did capture a few with my cell.  😃

Never knew crickets liked pistachios.  One cricket munching out then 4 others showed up. 5 crickets fighting over a pistachio ha ha ha!

I  did drive at night on Friday.  Then headed back Sunday about noon. Drove to Barstow,  got an icecream then took the backseat with my icecream.

A good weekend.  Neither won any money,  lost actually but I only had a mocha Latta or two do that leaves it open just in case I want a new bike light or something.  We'll I've got 3 awesome and a couple ok headlights but nothing wrong with adding another if I find a good sale. 😄

Anyway   the girls had a good weekend so we're all happy 😊
