One Hour Dumb Ash Ride

One hour goal, almost 15 miles at an easy average 14 something. I did a couple hard efforts on my Strava segment just for a workout though I did not want to ha ha! Legs tired enough, but hey, sometimes you get the best workout and reward from doing it when you're not at your best.  Push a little beyond your limits.

So I thought I would have a nice fresh air ride though it was hot today. Most times it's cool at night around the industrial center area, but today it was hot at night. Did more lifting with the weights yesterday than usual so maybe that was why I had a lazy crappy attitude tonight ha ha. Actually I felt good, just didn't feel like pushing, but I did! Haven't looked at my numbers yet so who knows, I probably pushed hard but went nowhere, fast ha ha ha!

Either way, always nice to be out on the bike. Just lubed the chain so it was a smooth ride tonight. Much more semi traffic tonight, everybody is loading up I guess! Or maybe it is welfare check time! Like that homeless chick at Edna Park said, I'm taking all their money. Yeah, work my whole life so my retirement pension is their welfare check, yeah right ha ha!

Anyway, always a nice ride when you go out in the dark alone. Just a nice feeling! And I like to keep it down during the week then pick it up a little on the weekends if I can.

BTW, don't you hate when you go into a turn, I was planning to do a hard push, when you hear a ting ding like something hit or FELL OFF YOUR BIKE ??? :-O

I heard something so I thought maybe a light mount snapped and hit my tubes on the way down. Nope, so you spend the next 5 minutes riding trying to shine your light on different parts of your bike to make sure they're still there. Chainring, check, brake calipers, check, seat post, check, I think I'd know if that one came off ha ha! I didn't want to stop, wheels looked straight, shifted good so kept going.

I did inspect the road where it happened on the next loop. Saw a small stone there, must be it, keep fingers crossed ha ha!

Again with the freaking mask! :-(

LEGS LEGS LEGS, YEAH !! For those of you who know the T Twins ha ha!

Saturday Ride Video with Fazi

Hope it plays here! Got a notice from youtube it's blocked in Denmark, so hope it plays. It does start out with a silent title so don't freak out ha ha!

Edit: Wow, you never know what other people are going through. Got this message from Dean on youtube.

This was a super cool video! It was pure serendipity to hook up with you guys and to have such fun. Couldn't have been better if it was planned in advance. I'm curious to know what camera you used for this and what editing software for the sound track. Tom Petty was an excellent choice! Your camera adds a new dimension to things and makes me want to get one. What kind of camera did you use?? Also have to offer you guys a great deal of thanks. Your warmhearted spirit and the fun of seeing the video has boosted my spirits. I'm 4 months into a serious battle with prostate cancer, going through a form of chemotherapy that has wrecked my performance, which is why I ran out of gas 15 miles from home. Radiation starts in a week. But your kindness has totally boosted my spirits. THANKS!!!

Nice Short Ride with Gina

26 miles with Gina today at 16.8 average speed. I'd be happy with a 16 from Gina since she doesn't ride much but she always amazes me whipping out some better speeds. Nice day today, not too hot, seemed cool at the morning and warmed up nicely, but not hot!

Ran into Bad Bob on the return. He must have seen us right after we left the coast. I did look back once we hit the wooden bridge and saw a couple riders but had no idea it was Bad Bob. I only saw shadows but if I had known it was Bad Bob, I still wouldn't have slowed down ha ha!

Not many people at the beach stop anymore. Though I think many ride early trying to avoid the heat though it hasn't been that bad lately, like a few weeks ago. But it's nice because we pretty much have the trail to ourselves on the way back.

Did wear my Old Fart jersey today. We were behind a couple of guys on the trail today heading back. Caught them a couple of times but backed off because I didn't want to push Gina too much. If we passed them, they would draft us then sprint around trying to drop us and Gina isn't up to racing people. We were just doing our pace. They were just ahead of us then they stopped at Edna Park as we continued on. Once we got back to the parking lot at ARTIC, they rode up. One guy rode by and shouted, "I like your jersey!". ha ha ha! I like these silly jerseys, they attract a lot of attention.

BTW, I did not know what Bad Bob was talking about saying Gina was dangling off the back when he rode up. I didn't realize it but we rolled up on a couple of guys a couple times as mentioned. The first time was leaving the coast, but they took off. Later we caught back up not intending to, just holding our pace. We rolled up on them on a short little climb then they rolled off again. Then we rolled up on them again not trying but each time they sprinted away. Which was good but we ended up behind them more than we liked so I put on my mask and at that time, Gina placed her mask on her face and I not knowing, seemed to pull away a bit not realizing Gina fell back. So once she was done, she said she had to work a little hard to catch back up. That is when Bad Bob rolled up on us and noticed Gina a bit off the back. So he thought I was pushing the pace trying to catch the guys. Nah, I didn't even realize Gina slowed to put on her mask, that's why there was a gap. I had no intentions of trying to catch the guys. I was just trying to hold onto a 16+ average speed.

I did mention the guys ahead of us because Bad Bob was concerned that I was working Gina hard trying to catch them. Nah, we were just holding our pace. Not my fault they faded a few times ha ha! But Gina felt great on the ride.

Heading to the coast and the flag at Edna Park was moving pretty good. I felt the wind but felt much better than I expected after yesterday's faster ride. I was really expecting to be fatigued but felt good. Did roll up on some riders heading to the coast the really looked like they were worried about getting passed ha ha. Silly people!

Gina the mask wearer! Her son is on dialysis and has all kinds of issues after a heart attack and major stroke so she makes sure to wear her mask.

Can't believe Gina is self conscious about her smile. So nice when she actually smiles!

Bad Bob caught us from behind then rode with us a bit to increase his mileage ha ha!

Gina did well but was happy to be back to the truck.

Remember the ass hat that shouted at me last week? Today we ran across the group again. 2 of my friends belong to the club. Going opposite way, I heard them shouting my name so I waved. A few guys were waving and shouting ha ha! I'm guessing the ass hat saw the video and maybe even got a few words from my friends ha ha ha!

Meet Up with Fazi & Friends

42 miles at 18.0 average speed. I think they did 52 at 16.9. I stopped at the beach stop thinking they were going down to the pier, not my thing. I started at ARTIC then rode down to meet them at Yorba Park where they started.

I ran across a lady that shouted at me somewhere around Kraemer and a dude who shouted "BEANZ!!!" somewhere around Warner I think. Not sure who they were, maybe they will show up later on Strava Fly Byes.

But anyway, I had met Fazi on the trail quite some time ago. Got to talking, think he and one of his buds rode with us, I don't remember. Strange I don't remember as I do most things. I remember meeting him but not sure how it went down ha ha! But anyway, he told me he was in town from Rancho Santa Margie and hoped we would run across one another on the trail. Heck, I can do better than that,  I'll meet you at Yorba. So I rode alone to the park from ARTIC to meet them. I was about 30 minutes early. Wow, time drags when you're waiting for bike friends. I almost thought I missed them but looked at the clock after a while and it was only 10:10 and they were scheduled to start at 10:30. Felt like 5 hours waiting haha!

But they showed up as scheduled, thankfully! So one of the guys says he is slow and will be lagging behind. Yeah OK! I took the front at the start just to set the pace thinking by Fazi's history on Strava that we would average maybe 16. But Fazi went around me after 1/8 and picked it up. OK, here we go! I still didn't expect it to be that fast. But just after Imperial, some dude comes up with aerobars and says he likes my Fat Bastard jersey ha ha! Pretty fit looking guy and being at the front at this time, he said to get on his wheel. I don't usually like to hop wheels but since this was a group ride, I would be sooner or later so I hopped on. He did some pretty good pulls and we worked well together, including Fazi who helped with some really good pulls too. So we were rolling pretty good.

I usually stop at Edna park for Gina but today, we rode all the way through. An average of 18.9 on the 20 miles from Imperial to PCH. That's rolling for me!

The dude who joined us had planned to ride to Warner he said. But later he said he was liking it so much that he was going to go all the way to the beach with us if that was cool. Sure, helped us out too! We got to the beach then Fazi and his friends rolled along the beach path. I thought they were going to the pier but nope, they came back rather quickly. So we took a break a little longer then we all headed back, minus the new dude who had already headed back when we arrived.

Nice return, nice tailwind. Rolling without too much effort, we had a 19.0 bridge to bridge heading north. Not bad. One of Fazi's friends was on a hybrid type and he fell back on a hill so I tried not to go too fast so that we could all stay together. More fun that way! The dude on the hybrid is like 67 If I member correctly. He kept up the whole way and making it look easy so I didn't want to drop him at any point. That's no fun!

So we rolled back quite comfortably making for a nice ride for all. I turned off at ARTIC, my starting point so they still had a few more, maybe 7 miles to go. Looks like they did pretty good because they had a good average for the distance.

Rode my oldie bike, 1998 CAD3

Fazi, a White Guy, and Daryoush. Of course the white guy has an easy common name but that's the one I can't remember ha ha!

Smiling with the tailwind

Smiling because I only have 13 and they have 21 more ha ha!

Easy Hour Spin after some Iron Work

An easy hour spin around the industrial center tonight. Did some work with the weights the last couple of weeks, including this afternoon. So figured an hour easy spin would do me some good tonight. I think I was 14 point something average. Just going for a relaxing hour.

This was a couple of days ago. Trying to develop some old man bumps ha ha! This is about my second week of doing some basic movements with dumbells. Feeling stronger already and technique is coming back. But arms still feel like twigs!

Nice Easy Solo Ride

15 easy miles at 14.1 average speed. Set out to do an easy hour or 10 miles but it was so nice outside, I just kept going to 15. Getting late or I would have just kept going, it was so nice! Windy but the cool air felt so refreshing. I did see traces of ash in the air but compared to what it has been down here near the mountains, it was really nice tonight ha ha! I thought about using the mask but it was just too nice!

My helmet setup. GP strap, J hook buckle mount, Cygolite adapter, and light. I really like the light on the helmet vs the hb mounts. Never realized what I had been missing all these years. So nice, look in a direction and the light goes where your eyes go. I do use 2 lights, one on the hb's as well, But if I had to chose one, it would be the helmet mounted light.

Just happy to be out there in the cool air, I guess!

Was really strange! After about 6 miles, I realized I had this strange look on my face ha ha! It never went away after I took the pic.  Was just that nice of an evening and ride!

My Madone after a nice sweet cool mellow relaxing ride.

Yes, my daughter knows me! One of the shirts she's given me. Never underestimate an old guy on a bike ha ha ha!

26 Easy with Gina and Tough Guy Video ha ha!

Set out for a nice 26 miler with Gina today. 16.0 average speed so it was nice. She has been off again for 3 weeks, the heat, out of town visitors, and ashes. Not taking her out on rides with the way the ash has been. We don't see much smoke at home but the ash is crazy.

EDIT: Believe it or not, just found out this guy's group had a serious crash today with serious injuries, but yet he is worried about my handling skills? What a dope! And this was their second crash in a short time. Wow! seems this idiot ought to worry more about his own.

So we did our thing, nice and not too crowded. Ran into Bad Bob at the coast for a chat. He rolled out then a few minutes later, we rolled out. Pretty empty trail by this time but once we approached the bridge, that is when we ran across the big mouth ha ha!

Funny thing is, as he is complaining I did not have my hands on the bars, he's waving madly at me with one of his hands but he has a group of guys on his wheel and they are trying to increase their speed. I'm sure, he wants me to put my hands on the bars so what? He can do 25 on a trail with a 10 MPH speed limit? How hypocritical is that ha ha!?

Another funny thing is that as we got closer, I recognized the group as the group of which one of my friends rides with, Tio's cycling group. I'll get a kick out of showing this video to my buddy ha ha! With a little description of what I think of his tough guy friend ha ha! They're always tough in a group ha ha!

I got a kick out of it because my buddy was in the group. But seeing the guy who shouted, I thought he was on the small side and I got a kick out of how the small guys many times have a big mouth. Then I got home and looked at the video and saw one of his legs totally busting out with the varicose veins ready to burst at any second. Then the overall look of his legs, pretty scrawny and a strange upper body slightly larger than the rest of him ha ha! Almost makes you wonder how those scrawny little legs can support the rest of him ha ha!

SO I made the vid, post it on fb as well as the pics and a descrip. Why not, the dude is a dick and if he comes looking for me, I'll tell him so! Of course I hope he doesn't think he's bad ass because one swift kick to the veins, he's had it ha ha! Plus he does look old and fragile skinny legs, I'd almost hate to beat up on this guy, it would be like taking candy from a baby. Of course it would not come down to that anyway. I'm pretty sure he's the guy who wants to look tough in front of his buddies because his wife pushes him around ha ha!

As mentioned before, I am always surprised by the stupidity of cyclists. Another idiot on the trail today. As Gina and I were approaching the coast, I see a big group of riders approaching from the opposite direction. A long line of hybrid/ friend type of riders. Doing a decent pace but not race pace, maybe 15 of them.

I see some race looking riders going around them so we're approaching each other at a good rate. 2 guys make it around and swing back to their side once passing the hybrid riders. Which was imo, stupid to start with. BUT!!!! Then I see 2 more race type riders only half way through the group and not slowing and NOW WAY are they going to clear the hybrid riders. The first guy just goes to his far left and goes off into the dirt. OK idiot, you deserve to get your bike dirty cause you're stupid! But the second guy holds on longer so I just give him the look like you're going down. Then he cuts off into the dirt as well. Opposite side of the trail of which he was traveling. He was actually getting pretty close to us when he made the cut out move. Good you idiot! But as he passes he looks at me and says, "yeah yeah yeah!!" as if he knows he's stupid and did something wrong so of course I let out the loud, "IDIOT!!!". Can't believe how stupid these cyclists are. I love bringing this up because if you go on a cycling forum, first thing you will read is how dangerous and inconsiderate drivers are when in fact, these stupid cyclists are just as bad. And a little more stupid as I have to say, they don't realize how much damage a cycling accident can cause to another person. Too many stupid people on bikes!

I did however make a couple of new friends at Edna Park. Couple of drug addict looking dudes who were in the women's rest room. Not sure if they were doing drugs or what, but one guy came out and asked if we needed the restroom, they would be happy to exit. Gina was good though but I did say, "hey man, thanks for asking, I appreciate it after having had to deal with a few idiots not long ago!". So we got into a conversation about how disrespectful young people are nowadays. They agreed!

One dude was 50 but Gina and I thought he was about 65, wow, don't do drugs ha ha! The other was 33. They asked how I was so I said 57. The 33 year old turned to Armando, the 50 year old and said, "damn dude, he's 57 and you look thrashed!", ha ha ha! Good thing I took up cycling and not drugs!

So we start talking and I tell them that when I was a kid, if an aunt asked for something, we did it and did not talk back. Nowadays, young kids tell their grandparents to screw off!

So we chatted a bit and it was pretty cool! I did use my ghetto tone, every other fucking word was the F word ha ha! Got to communicate with these guys that way. I grew up on the rough side of town so I know. Dad wouldn't let us talk or dress like the rest of the guys around us so people would never guess we were from the ghetto by the way we speak. But, in this case, we got to get the foul mouth going so they understand me. Ha ha ha, they were pretty cool and as we left, we got the fist bumps going on! But yeah, this is how you deal with these guys, be cool then let them know what's up. If not, you got to talk a lot of trash to put a little fear in them to get their respect ha ha! But today was a good fun talk shit and fucking run my foul mouth lingo to communicate and we had a good fucking time ha ha!

So now, if I have to use the restroom, I can ask these guys to get the fuck out while we use the restrooms ha ha I've seen them there before so if I ever have to, I'll fuck with them ha ha!

Gina trying out her new pink mask.

In the train station. Got my mask on as required. Surprised at how many homeless are in here without masks. Guess that's why they're homeless, can't follow simple rules.

Gina keeps her mask on all the time. I only use it when we get around people outdoors. Too hot and hard to breath.

Gina getting in a warm up before the ride. I have to put my bike together so she gets a chance to warm up. I think she's planning to bury me today ha ha!

Oh, tough guy ha ha! One kick and those legs are broken ha ha! Scrawny little legs, big mouth! ;-)

Doing stupid things! I just can't get myself to do them ha ha! So yesterday I had a flat. It seemed a sidewall issue, wasn't sure. But today rolling through the 405 freeway tunnel, I remembered I did hit something in the road that bumped my tire off the ground a bit. Not sure if it was something in the road or I hit a seam in the construction. Totally forgot till today not knowing why my sidewall was damaged. Till I retraced my steps but it did blow about a mile down the road.

So I read up on boots seeing this was a fairly new tire, GP5000. I have read about sidewall issues with Conti since the late 90's but never had one myself. Till this so I was curious as to why hoping it wasn't a quality issue with the GP5000.

So most say there is no permanent boot, only emergency get me home type. My damage is not big at all more like a pin hole. But I did read about people gluing stuff in their tires looking for permanent boots, like leather patches. Yeah but where would I get the leather, not going to cut up my leather jacket or a baseball glove ha ha!

So I read about tape and a few other things. I had put a SCAB patch on the inside of the tire when I was making the roadside repair. Once home, I did not the patch was looking a little damaged itself. So I placed some strapping tape over a strip of rubber from an old tube. Patch, rubber, 2 strips of tape, I tried it out. I slept on it but wasn't happy about it in the morning. I was going to ride it today again as a test. But I figured, why mess with it, so I just replaced the tire with a new one, piece of mind.

Though I did read some people with not so worn tires do the boot trick and use it in the rear of the bike so that it would wear down a bit faster, faster than the front wheel. Also, I would have to take it out after a few rides to see how much damage is going on with the boot. Plus I would also just ride it around the industrial center so that I am never far from my truck. I may consider that cause I just hate the thought of losing half of my tire life! :-(

Fat Bastard Solo and a Freaking Flat !!!

Good solo ride today. Solo ride of 46 miles at 17.0 average speed. Doing good today and feeling good. Ran into Rick and his friends at the coast. Had a good chat but they are pretty fast so I figured I'd roll out and as they caught me, it would be a good chance to capture them on video. Well I was ready, feeling good thinking I could get them as they rolled up and if I had to, I could speed up and hang with them for a bit and get some good fast footage.

I was doing pretty good and even thought about pulling over to the side to let them catch up as I was rolling pretty good and maybe half way back.  But I didn't, just figured stay about 18 to get my 17 target average. And of course, about 2 minutes later, hiss hiss hiss!!! Freaking flat tire. No way I'll have it fixed before they catch up as it was a cut in the sidewall, very small but my tube looked like a snake bite. Not sure what happened, not a very old tire at all, my first GP5000 and I've heard bad things about them, hope it ain't true.

So I put a patch on the tire as well, somewhat of a boot. New tube then kept the pressure low. Seemed to do well on the return though but sadly I missed the video op. They did roll by and asked if I was good, surprised quite a few people asked. But I was good.

As I was fixing it, Sandra and Mark rolled by. I was surprised to see them. Then I ran into them later at the ARTIC center. Actually about 6 or 7 of the riders I know. They said, "I thought that was you on the side of the road" ha ha ha! Yup, it was me! Had a quick little chat with the Good looking old guy Eric ha ha!

They said that I ought to join them on a ride again sometime. But there are a few riders I am hoping to avoid, the dangerous ones ha ha! I like the friendship thing but just too many lousy unskilled dangerous riders. Trying to keep myself safe and healthy during these times. If I break my collarbone, or get hit by a car chasing one of the lousy riders, I'll end up in the hospital alone and with some hefty bills I don't need right now, or ever! So to join another ride with the group, it would have to be maybe like 4 of us, the safe ones ha ha!

But I actually  felt good today other than the flat tire. And actually that was no big deal. I get pissed sometimes cause a flat can ruin all the fun, bastards! But today I just tried to be my cool mellow self and just take care of it ha ha!

I did have a crazy encounter. One chick out there looks like some gal I see on instagram who posts pics on the trail every now and then. She goes by The Cycling Dietician. She's like a few of my pics and vice versa. So as I was fixing my flat, almost done, she and a guy went flying by. Later I caught her, not sure where the guy was at the moment, ahead I guess. She looked exactly like the gal I see on IG, Hispanic but light hair and pig tails. As I rolled by, I asked, "ARE YOU THE CYCLING DIETICIAN"? She shouted, "THE WHAAAAAT?!?!".

Oops, sorry, never mind ha ha! So I just rolled on by and continued my ride feeling good today!

                                                                        Freaking Flat !!!

Had my recorders today and nobody to record. So I was ready and willing running across Rick and his buds. But the flat just a few minutes before running into them on the return. :-(

Sandra and Mark rolling by ARTIC

End of ride, felt good but still unhappy about the flat ha ha!

One Hour Iron Tour and a Haircut

Nice one hour of riding tonight, easy 13.7 average speed. I pumped a little today for the shoulders and arms so tonight was just an easy spin to relax and spin up the legs. Finally got a haircut too! You know you're a cyclist when the haircut upsets you because you have to adjust the helmet straps and retention system ha ha!

Finally but I thought they were supposed to cut out the white ha ha!!

Started out without a mask but very little ash in the air so better safe than sorry.

Haircut, means have to readjust helmet.

Some Mr. Beans stuff!

Cool HB aluminum mounts, 2 for $7. Aluminum screws 3 for $7.

Ye old Cannondale, 1998 CAD3

No Halloween for Count Sal

My poor son in law Sal. He loves setting up some major big time haunted houses at Halloween. I mean serious stuff, like preparing all year long. Not sure what he will do this year but I made a silly little fun video just to experiment. :-P

Actually my voice and mouth wearing scary teeth ha ha! Just editing fun with the video.

Ashes to Ashes

HA HA HA HA! I still check in the forums once in a while to see who is talking crap today. To my surprise, my name showed up a few times but references to my name were actually in humor this time. I enjoy some good ole humor! And yes, there are a ton of a hole cyclists in California! ;-) Add Scapr, I'm coming to KYA! Ha ha ha ha!

16.7 miles at 16.1 average speed. Just wanting to get out to stretch the legs since I didn't have a chance to ride this past weekend. Had out of town company and with all the fire and ash, wasn't so sure I wanted to do a long ride. Been wearing a mask for the ash but it gets tough trying to breath. Especially when the going gets tough. Suffocate oneself ha ha!

Tonight, I just tried to hold a steady pace and actually felt pretty good. Strange, flat course but it is really hard in some spots. I think it seems flat but sections are 1 and 2 percent, just enough to slow you down but not enough to show any gain. Some spots an easy 17-19 but then others, I feel like I'm going good but look down and see 14. So I have been concentrating on trying to keep those areas up to a decent speed ha ha!

But the ash doesn't help none though I can not blame it because my average has been slow here way before that ha ha! The ash is crazy. I can no longer see it during the day but at night, with a light on, it is very visible, actually scary to think people are breathing it this junk. I actually thought about riding without a mask tonight seeing it has calmed down some, ashes flying onto my truck and all parked at home. But once I hit the road with the light, wow, I'll keep the mask! Well, unlike the virus, I'm hoping this surgical mask keeps ash out of my lungs. I may have plenty of fibers in my lungs from the inside of the mask, but it's better than ash, I hope! :-P

Scary thing is, I ride near the airport and train tracks there on Mission Blvd. I hear the planes take off every now and then so it can take you by surprise but after a couple of seconds, you remember the airport is only 1/8 of a mile away.

But last night I was really spooked! The train is even closer than the airport. So I was heading south away from the tracks. Didn't hear anything but then this loud horn almost blows out my eardrums. OK not really but it was pretty loud. I had this feeling that a big semi had just turned onto the road behind me blowing its horn. I looked back expecting to see headlights but nope, nothing. It was just the train but it sure sounded like that movie with Dennis Weaver, the crazy truck trying to run him off the road. Forgot the name of the movie. OK, looked it up, the move is called Duel.

There are semis loading and driving around as well as parking on the side as well. But I see maybe 6 or 7 per night so no big deal. I can see them well and make sure to keep my distance. If I am on a short stretch and see on coming behind me, I just kick butt to the next turn and get away. Most are slow after just loading and leaving a warehouse. Sometimes I will approach an intersection at the same time as a semi. I will wait and wave them on but most times, they end up waving me on so I know they see me. That is cool! But sometimes, we get there and I am not sure, so I just turn around and make a short backtrack of my course till the truck goes, then I resume. Better safe than sorry if one is not sure.

But last night, I was going around a bend in the road. A semi was entering the road from a drive way to the left side of the road. He had no way of knowing I was coming as it is a blind curve in the road. So I slowed a bit and let him enter. He was going slow so I saw an opening on the ride side and though I would never try, I was thinking to myself, somewhere out there, there is an idiot that would have tried to pass the guy on the right. Plenty of room but if for some reason he didn't see my 2 headlights, 2 red blinkies or the reflector on my ankle, had I tried to pass him on the right, there is always that chance that a blind semi driver could run your ass over ha ha! I thought about what it would be like to be one of those idiots. No matter how tempting, don't do it! Sooner or later, that stupid crap catches up to you. I had been trying to hold a steady pace on the ride but this messed up my step and maybe even my average speed for a few seconds. But who cares, I'd rather stay alive. I'm not one of those I'm going for it cause I have the right to the road idiots! I try to keep myself safe and alive. Screw the rights and macho BS!

So anyway, that is my story and I am sticking to it!

Ash is in the air baby!

I don't like wearing a mask, but I don't like lung cancer either!

Ash is present here, much more visible in the light or with a flash. I've been wanting to ride Baseline Claremont to Covina area but heck, this ash sucks and even thicker over there. I can wait!

Gina's new desk set up and ready to go. Been at her new job for nearly 3 months and loving it. Not as complicated a system as her last job of 22 years so this is a piece of cake for her. Her big boss called her in couple weeks back and said he is really happy that he hired her. Today, Tues, a customer called wanting to talk to the big boss. He told them Gina was a breath of fresh air to them, very efficient and sweet! :-) Yes she is!

I like the little metal mesh paper trays, pen holders etc. They gave her some shotty slots etc but we were at the big lots and wally world where we saw this stuff. So I suggested she buy her own stuff so her desk looks cool. Color stickies, paper clips etc was all my idea ha ha. The candy jar was her idea! :-P

Some people have asked about her new job so now you know. Doing really well, having fun, and digging the compliments. Most of all, making good money again! :-)

Ash Wednesday Ride

15 miles at an easy 13.7 average. Set out for a nice leg stretch after the blazing hot ride. My muscles really fatigued on that ride. Even easy things, of course it was still 103 like watering the yard was rough ha ha! I watered the back and front, and a little touch up work for about 2 hours on Monday and man, I felt tired. I guess the heat really got me this time.

So a nice easy ride tonight in 74 degrees should be nice. It was really nice, legs felt great. Didn't feel any fatigue and was feeling so good, I almost quit at 10 miles not wanting to get tired. Ever feel so good, you just want to stop so you don't ruin the feeling?

Well, I felt great tonight. But luckily I had my little back up mask with me tonight.  Though I was solo, not a soul around, I wore it once I saw the ashes in my headlight. WOW! Don't see it much with the naked eye at night but once the lights are on, here it comes! Also the flash helped light it up for the pics. Glad I wore my mask. Not too comfortable on rides but I'd rather get that stuff on the mask than in my lungs.

So I had a great little ride, had fun, enjoyed my ride and think I was safe enough out there tonight with my mask. Wanted to stop at 10 feeling good but thought I better do the 15 since I only rode once during the last weekend. But it sure was nice to ride in a much cooler temp! ;-)

WOW, WOW, JUST WOW!!!!

Woke up this morning to some bad news. As mentioned before, my cousin Bobby passed away about 1.5 months ago from a stroke at 62. His mother 80 had a hard time and had a stroke. In a hospital with a stroke and incoherent.

Then her other son Joey, 59 did a job on Catalina Island, chemical spill clean up guy who works with his 2 sons David 38 and Danny 32. All 3 guys got the virus.  My cousin Joey got really sick then improved a bit then took a turn for the worse and ended up dying about 2 weeks ago.

They did not tell my Aunt worried it might kill her losing a second son in 1 1/2 months. Joey's 2 sons were also in the hospital with the virus. The older son David somewhat recovered and was released but has lung and heart damage as a result. Then this morning, the younger son Danny passed away. Young 30 year old, thin, looked the healthiest of them all. Married 2 years ago and has a 2 month old baby, WOW!

So my cousin Georgi, poor girl, lost 2 brothers, a nephew all in a 2 month period, and her mother is really sick in the hospital getting ready to go home on hospice. Her mother, my aunt, hasn't been told that the others have passed away seeing the news of the first one almost killed her.
