Drunk Bastard Beanz Thursday

Nice easy Thursday ride. Pico to the SF Dam Nature Center. 25 miles 15.2 average speed. Average 129 heart rate. Felt more aerodynamic with the new haircut he he he! 😁 Usual pre ride meal, 2 eggs and some grapes. Some dude in the parking lot said he saw me riding as he was driving up and asked if I had real beer bottles in my back pocket ha ha ha! Too many motors on the trail nowadays. Motorbikes, quads, full size motorcycles, crazy! New nice little park at the nature center with a nice bottle filler. Let's see how long it lasts with all the crazy people that hang around there. Average 86 degrees and a high of 91 but I didn't feel the heat. Maybe I'm getting once again, acclimated to the heat after a cool spell this year.

Broke 415 miles this month. Good compared to my recent usual distances.

This trips me out. Couple weeks back and for a few weeks, I was getting a lot of daily views,  app 600-700 per day. Usually 50 per day but view count has been high. Past week was back to normal but yesterday it went back up to 300+ and today 760+.

Makes me wonder why. Other thing that is funny, I get a plenty of views in other countries. I guess somebody in the Ukraine knows Mr. Beanz ha ha ha! Just strange!

Feeling aerodynamic after another self homemade haircut ha ha ha!

                                                                       That Dam Climb

Just some peeps out there.

Nice !

I guess if you were driving by in a car, you might think they were real.

He's lucky I was on a recovery day ha ha ha!

                                                                   HR not too tough today.

30 Miles in the Foothills & San Dimas Cyn with TC

Nice ride from Glendora to San Dimas Cyn with TC. First off, almost 390 miles for July so I'm good having one more ride day planned. Easily break 400. Got the call from TC yesterday asking if I'd be interested, OK! Nice ride with about 1800 ft of gain. Warn day but didn't feel too hot to me. Max said 100 but I would not have thought it was that hot. I did feel a hot wave about 75% into the ride. I mentioned it to TC and he said he could feel the heat and getting to him. I felt it but the device read 93 at that point and I felt more like 80 other than a hot breeze. Funny though, almost all day long it felt cool while we were moving.

TC rode strong and my legs were frying trying to keep in sight in the canyon. He finished a minute or so before me and looking good though he said he felt like stopping at a couple of points. You know me, a big guy just making my way up but today with frying legs. I think from the longer Sunday ride with some effort that was still in my legs. Oh well, all part of getting back into shape. TC was supposed to have some kind of plasma injection treatments for his bad knee but seems the medical field is screwing up so it's a little twisted right now, hoping he gets it straight so he can get his knee fixed.

But a good ride then a post ride meal with Gina and her Mom Cecee. Poor Cecee, her son had some kind of an anger period this week dealing with some sheot going on in his domain, poor guy! So he was a little grumpy on Friday so Cecee needed some cheering up. I think Sizzler and a trip to the mall for a cup of coffee and people watching did the trick.

BTW, on the last video with Sandra, I brought up the fact that TC and Mark went riding without me. The fact is they did but didn't bother me seeing I'm a big boy now. But I did explain to TC that I had brought up the point as someone told me something about their similar experience, friends no inviting them to ride along which was sad. So I brought up the scenario in the video chat to make a point for someone with a recent experience. So I acted like a baby about it but fact is, didn't bother me at all.  And I think thar person knew who I was talking about ha ha ha! Your welcome ha ha ha!

A good day to ride!

Ya know it's funny! So many riders complain about traffic but again today, had about 5 drivers shield us from traffic. Going down Cataract, car stayed behind us on a narrow street till we finished the stretch. I always give a wave to these cool drivers. Again on Amelia heading towards Gladstone where the road narrows. We made a left then a quick right up a short steep grade. The same car sat behind us till we were done with the climb then went around. As well as heading up Glendora Ave. We were approaching the park entrance where we started. Two cars approaching in the opposite direction. I was rolling up and signaled to turn left into the driveway. No turning lane here so I must wait till it's clear and hope cars don't come up from behind me, us. I signaled and the two cars heading the opposite direction stop and allow us to turn into the driveway, stopping about 6 cars behind them. Wow, I really appreciate these drivers and this is what makes it so hard to believe on cycling forums and facebook about all the drivers want to kill us stories and edited videos that don't show the whole truth.

See the road coming up from the left. The road is so torn up though, I have to slow way down at the beginning to make my way through. And the descent sucks. I could always fly down this road but with the broken pavement nowadays, forget it, I'll just cruise down.

Bike pic from TC's cell.

My usual pre ride breakfast. 2 eggs with some chorizo for flavor, couple of turkey sausages.

Dayum, somebody been working out! :-P

Mostly Solo 45 (10 with Bad Bob)

44.9 miles at 16.2 average speed today. Mostly solo but ran into Bad Bob at Edna Park. He was working on a 45 miler and asked if I didn't mind his tagging along on my ride to the coast. Sure, so he turned around and headed back to HB with me. Always good to see Bad Bob.  I think he is one of the original OG's from Orange County racing. But seems getting older, the both of us, many of our friends have vanished or even gone. Still think of the Legend Greg now and then, as well as Boyd. Really cool guys taken too soon, as they say.

Good catching up on things with Bad Bob. Good listener and good opinions on matters. Many which seem similar to my answers for things. One that we have the same and seems to solve many issues is, "FUCK THOSE GUYS!!!" ha ha ha! Always works for me. He's a little older than I and I think we have the old school thought process seeing modern civilization as a bunch of wussies. Well, my thoughts anyway and I may be wrong but seems he thinks much the same.  Good times and chatting.

He left before I did so I headed back a few minutes after he did. Not really much going on other than that, just trying to get in my ride as well.

Family day at the beach today. Seems there were a few BIG families today.

Got home a little later than usual seeing I traveled to SART rather than SGRT. So Gina and I went to Millie's for dinner. Sha had the Talapia and I had the chorizo breakfast tacos, as if I don't eat them at home ha ha ha!

But feeling great and doing well keeping the waistline in control, I opted for a banana split today and Gina had a chocolate chocolate sundae. Actually we planned our usual, sharing an individual cherry pie but the waiter Gorge said they were out of little pies.  So Gina talked me into a BS and I didn't argue much ha ha ha!

Ha! You know you're VIP status at Mrs Field's cookies when the server gives you 2 free cookies 🍪 with your coffee ☕️.  I shouldn't but hey, it was a gift. 😄

Evening Ride with Sandra (video)

25 miles and about 1200 ft gain with Sandra along the Donut Man Ride.  She was looking pretty strong today. She says she hates climbing and has been trying for 6 years but isn't getting any better. I think she has improved plenty since we rode together a year or two ago. Time goes so fast that I forget how long it has been ha ha ha!

One thing that makes it hard for me is that she switches up the course every time we ride. I think I'm going one way and feeling good then she suggests a different direction once I'm beyond the point or turn. I can't hear her from a distance with cars and wind in my ears especially while descending at 24 or so. Next thing I know, she's turning or something that throws me off. But we talked about it and I suggested a little notice before hand so that I know what to do or go if she is changing the course. Like the couple of cul de sac streets that she went up to climb.  One with a 13.6 percent grade. Though I wonder if she makes these suggestions and changes to surprise me causing me to slow down ha ha ha!

But either way, it seems I get a pretty good workout riding with Sandra which is good.

Did meet a couple of nice people at the Dount Man. We rode up and they started asking questions about cycling and we started a pretty good chat about eating right and stuff like that.  Lady a bit older, think she was with her son, but very nice. Told us about the cop that told her she had to ride on the street and not the sidewalk.  The guy much younger and seemed to be into exercise started chatting about everything about nutrition.  Interesting.

Did get a little darker this time towards the end of the ride. Getting darker earlier and we did finish about 8:15 pm. But a good ride and Sandra looking strong. One dude on a YT video left a comment saying  Sandra was a beast ha ha ha! I told her and she denied it but I will say that with all the women that rode with us in the group couple years ago, I think she is one of the better climbers now. I met some strong female riders on those group rides but most of them complained if they knew there was a climb on the ride. Sandra looks for climbs and is doing well. I bet if she rode with those riders again, she would be surprised with Bad self ha ha ha!

Freaking Ozzie had to die! I was going to use an Ozzie song for the video but before I could, I got an email saying they muted my past video with an Ozzie song due to copyrights. Never had a problem with Ozzie songs on YT but now I do. Darn! So I used American Woman by The Guess Who but copyright issues as well so not viewable in Russia. I can deal with that ha ha ha!

The 13.6 grade Sandra used to torture me. Not having climbing gears, I had to stand which is unusual for me. 53/39 -13/26 gearing so this was steep. I used these gears and bike climbing up to Big Bear  5 times over the years but I don't think it had this steep of a grade along the way. But I survived.

So I guess this is why the little branched off streets Sandra chose for the ride were so tough, 17.7 percent. I definitely don't have the gears.

Couple random characters cause you never know who might know them.

Don't Drunk And Ride !!!

Solo 24 miles today.  Wore my Drunk Bastard jersey today ha ha ha! Call me superstitious but I never wear this jersey on the actual road. On the bike trail yes, but road, no! Nice somewhat easy ride but the wind never cooperates.

Don't worry, the crash is staged ha ha ha! Just looking for a different pose, all I could think of today. Not many people on the trail at all so made it easy to do some posing. And of course, one cans see for a good distance at this point so no danger to anyone. But the homeless dude slowly approaching from afar probably thought I was a nut.

No Athletes or Animals were hurt during this scene, especially not my bike ha ha ha! Another good old 2 egg breakfast with Ceecee homemade fresh salsa from last night's Tostada Night. Funny story, I was cleaning my GPS unit with glass cleaner yesterday. Put my head close to it so that I could see if there were any streaks on the face. I got this strong smell of cilantro when I did and thought to myself, wow that is strange that the glass cleaner smells like cilantro. Turns out Cecee had just started cutting the goods to make fresh salsa. Got me good on that one, took me a minute to figure it out ha ha ha!

My 2 eggs and some chorizo mixed in the mix. Griller type chorizo sausage that Gina thought might be a good idea but I prefer the original as it mixes better. This stuff is like having chunks and bits of sausage mixed in the egg.

Btw, the JBL buds are awesome! Half the price of the Samsung buds I have (2 pair) and the JBL make a better connection. No losing signal while riding. And if I speak on the phone, the other person can actually hear me unlike the sucky Samsung buds. AND.....JBL has a headphone app that provides an equalizer so the JBL buds sound better while riding and EQ controls. Work great at the mall too, no loss of connection while chilling.

My cilantro smelling Bryton ha ha ha!

You know you hit Sizzler VIP status when the servers tell you that any time you want a bowl for desert, soup or a salad, no problem. 😁 Today I felt like something different so I ordered the trio with shrimp and ribs, and steak But it doesn't come with soup. The cashier Christian said he knows I like my soup so he gave me a bowl even though it isn't included with the meal. Good knowing people in high places. 😉 Ain't nobody sweeter than my Honey. Always a good time laughing and spending time with her.
