This was from the 50 mile ride on Saturday (8/9/14)

Midweek Ride Video (San Antonio Ave)

This is one of our midweek rides up Ana Antonio Ave. I suggested we do a couple of short midweek rides to spin up the legs. Not a ride to go out and push ourselves past our limits but just a couple of nice gentle climb relaxing rides to get in some miles. About 1,000 ft gain in the 12 miles but most of that in the 6 miles that is broken up into to sections as we do the climb twice. So it is nothing tough but maybe 3-4 % grade with a short max of 8 near 24th street.

Gina who would avoid all climbing if I let her thinks it's a tough course but after doing it a few times, she really did great this time. She rolled right up and never really gasped for air like she had a couple weeks back. I suggested we do a very easy pace this time since we did some good mileage this past weekend. So we did just that. Gina looked very relaxed throughout the ride and not once did she seem to struggle at all as he had in the past. She said she felt tired before the ride so that is why I suggested an easy day but she managed to beat her previous average speed by .2 while trying to make it an easy day!

Wow, I'm happy! Since we started doing these mid week rides, she has crushed everyone of her PR's on Strava (SART PR's) I was teasing one of my buddies after noticing she beat him on a segment. She set the PR on this past weekend's 50 miler. While I was joking with him, I found 4 or 5 other segments where she has him beat.  Not to rub it in but her PR's were set on the same segments at the end of the ride, his being a 42 miler and her ride being a 50 miler. That's great! The midweek rides are doing some good! She's riding strong but I do believe she is a marked woman on SART Stava now he he he he he! :-p

Anudder Mid Week

Another 13 miles with 1,000 ft gain. After some good distance on the weekend I suggested we do an easy ride today to spin up the legs. Gina just rolled up the hill and never seemed to lose her breath. Made it look real easy so I'm thinking she's getting some fitness back! Her average was .2 higher than last week with not much effort today!

I had a chance to ride my Madone with a saddle I had in the closet. I had bought it to try on the tandem, a Terry fly wannabe form Performance. Rode it a couple of times bu then saw a Fly on Nashbar for $64 so I sent for one. Took the Performance (FORTE) saddle off then stuck it in the closet. Now that my saddle is thrashed, I figure I'd try the Forte to see how it worked on my Single bike. Wow, the guys really think I'm far from a real rider for wearing a Performance jersey, I bet they get a kick out of the saddle ha ha ha! :-P

Forgot a Title Ride ha ha! Sunday

Another 36 miles with Gina on SART. Ran into SmogSteve (internet name) and his wife at the start. Have a short chat video that I will incorporate in my ride video, hopefully Mon night. I rode my Mr. Beans Mobile. Thrashed the saddle on my Madone. Strange one week I see the cover starting to peel and before I know it, the whole thing comes apart. I was riding and stood up to adjust or something. I sat back down and had this strange feeling. I was thinking my huevos had gotten like really really big ha ha! No such luck, turns out he seat cover peeled back and I just managed to sit on it!

Ron looks like a Creedence type of guy! :-P

Mr. & Mrs. SmogSteve.

Caught George on a fly by!

I tried as hard as I could to drop Gina but she just kept on smiling!

                                                            The Beans Mobile

                                                       Mr. Beans Meets Chuck!

                                                             Some surfer chick

I didn't really like her bike so I cropped it out.
Didn't really like her face either but ................ :-P

Smog Steve rolling by the rest stop

                                                               Oh what a feeling!

50 Miles (Ron and Dixie)

Well 3/4 of the 50 ride with Ron and Dixie. Write up and video at a later time. Gina did very well. I think she would have crushed me today if we had raced. She even had energy to clown around at the coast and to do a few poses for a photo shoot after the ride ha ha! Marcello and Alex also in the pics.

It was only Gina and I today but as soon as we rolled up to the trail head Ron and Dixie arrived as well. Ron said they planned to hang around with us for a while, no problem. I know they are fast so I figured we'd be split up rather quickly. They started out a little aster than our usual but Ron didn't mind holding back giving us time to warm up the legs. Some people start out fast compared to our pace, especially after a little climbing during the week. I knew Gina would take a while. But they slowed the pace. We reached Yorba Park, took a short potty break then headed off to Weir. Then back to the coast. It was real tough, pretty stiff headwind. Ron let me set the pace and when we got behind the tandem, what  a big difference. Doing pretty good but after a good pull, Ron & Dixie pulled away from us on the downhill near the 405 and quickly opened a gap of about 30 yards. Tired from fighting the headwind, I could not lift the pace to gently close the gap. I could take a deep breath and sprint up but then that would leave a big gap for Gina to close and she is not the sprinting type so I tried to gently close it but it was not happening. Seemed they were holding back keeping our pace but the 30 yard gap was not closing. So we just backed off and waved them on. I don't know if they saw us wave but they just rolled on ahead of us for the last 5 miles or so.

Alex caught us on the return so we hing with him for a while taking pics and recording some video footage. He was on another 100 miler and about 85 miles into the ride. Wow, that had to be tough with the wind that day ha ha! Also had a chance to speak with Marcello at the coast. We often see him gong the opposite direction. He's an early bird and Gina is not so we are hardly ever going the same direction ha ha! Nice warm day and a great ride for Gina.

Ron & Dixie waiting patiently for us to warm up!

                                                          Marcello, another 87 miler!

                                                                 Ready to jam home!

I'm tall but not real tall but if I were out there,
I'd be worried about losing my head ha ha!

I tell people I prefer older women. I just can't seem
to pin exactly what it is, I just do OK!! :-P

                                                        Munching on a Honey Stinger

                                                            Gina goofing around!

Alex cranking it up, around mile 85

Take my picture! Take my picture!

Tuesday Ride Local

Well got in a couple of loops (rectangles whatever they call them ha ha). Didn't have a chance to ride the trail this weekend so I think Gina's legs were still tight from Baldy Rd since we have not done much climbing. We headed up and Gina had a very hard time warming up. I though she'd get to the top of San Antonio ave and say that's it, let's go home! But she kept plugging away. She said, "I suck today!". I explained to her that riding the bike is not always about trying to go faster but that at times, it's just a great benefit to turn the pedals. It's the effort that makes you gain! I told her like the old saying goes, "if you can do it on your worst day, you can do it on your best day!".

Well it was not a fast ride by her standards but she did manage to ride up the hill on the second time around further than she had in the past. This is a good thing, a good sign that things can only get better! :-)

She rode up further the second time than she had over the last couple of weeks (shown by the graph).

Stated out shaky but enede up geign a good ride! OF course the pay off was going home and preparing some shish kabob on the grill! :-)

My wannabe a real cyclist Performance jersey! :-P

I believe we are moving faster than freeway traffic ha ha!

                                                           Second loop! Lights go on!

Gina just keeps getting darker and darker ha ha!

Chicken, bacon, B pepper and onions sliced, chopped, skewered ready to go!

                                                                       Going going!

                                                                Done! Mmmmm!

I Want To Be A REAL Cyclist Someday!

Stopped by Performance today just to look around. Gina pointed out a jersey just like the one I have. Bright light green, I don't know the scientific name for the color ha ha! "I have one just like that" I said. She said, " I know get another one, only $17!". Cool!

Then I remembered so dope I met on the bike. He said I could not be a real cyclist because I was wearing a Performance jersey. Wow, so you must have some fancy race kits? Uhhhh stutter stutter no! Oh, then what jerseys do you have from major rides like BA or Ride Around the Bear? Uhh stutter stutter, no answer!

So anyway, I bought another "not a real cyclist jersey today! But Gina said that if I need to feel like a real cyclist, I could buy this pillow and when they restock inventory, I can come back and get that wire bicycle pressed into a wooden frame to hang over the bed! :-P

This spiffy cycling pillow means I am half way to being a real cyclist! :-P

Another not a real cyclist jersey, just like the one I have in the closet!

OK, so Gina wears my BA jersey since it does not fit me. That means she
is a real rider and I am not since I'm wearing a Performance jersey ha ha! :-P

OK wait! If I wear my BA socks, will that
make me at least half a REAL cyclist?
