Failed Ride Broken Seat Post

Failed 20 relaxer due to a broken seat post at 5 miles out. Crawling back.

Bummer! Set out for a relaxing 20 miler but BOOM!  Five miles heading inland from Pico,  I felt something pop. Didn't seem serious so I wiggled on the saddle but didn't feel anything wrong.  Maybe chain suck but not sure so I pulled over to check anyway.  Oh damn, a small break on my seat post right below the clamp.  Small and like any cyclist I was thinking,  IT'LL BE OK πŸ˜†πŸ˜„πŸ˜†

Something told me NO knowing broken bike stuff never gets better on its own.  So I headed back and about a mile before my return with no issue, I decided to stop for a picture of the break before it got too bad. Bad idea maybe because I dismounted only to find the seat barely hanging on. But then maybe a good thing alerting me that it wasn't OK. So last mile I balanced the broken clamp on the post and pedaled softly back being very aware of the set up. If I stood at all,  the entire setup was screwed. But I made it back safely.

Funny thing though  I as I have a few times said that's it, giving up cycling ha ha ha. But only a 10 minute fix so I guess I'm OK ha ha ha.

A new carbon seatpost. Didn't really want or need carbon but the local shops,  2 of them, thisistheonlymodeleitherhad with zero setback in a 27.2 diameter post.

Strange enough,  a local well established shop, I walked in asking about a zero setback seatpost.  The owner,  or one of the owners I spoke to was confused.  The second owner/mechanic was also confused.  I explained the position of the clamp then one of them told me that in the future I should NOT mention ZER SETBACK as that was th incorrect. term. Uh OK!

I searched for my first zero setback in 05 and used them since as well as searching zero setback posts all over the net. Am I wrong or was I in a bike shop Twighlight Zone  episode? πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

So after the short ride, we went to eat. Wow, thnking about it, I brought Gina here for the first time 37 years ago. Today,  Gina went for the sides and I the usual meal deal.

Her meal came to $25 and mine $17. AND!!!! She ate my soup. πŸ˜„ I guess the meal combos are there for reason. Hope she's not turning into her brother.  Took him to Sizzler last week.  I got the $19 steak meal and he chose the $35 steak. Um OK. πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Thomson seat post. Good one but maybe age was a factor.

Butt these glutes can still crack walnuts ha ha ha!

The new one installed.  Easy peasy!

BTW,  viewing my blog stats on Friday,  it just happened that it was the exact day, 15th anniversary of my first blog post 15 years ago.  πŸ˜€

As well as 2 years ago that Tony gave his used Garmin heart rate monitor and strap.  He said they didn't work right so he bought the new improved version.  I thought it would be interesting to get an idea so as he offered it, I took it cleaning it up and buying a new ebay strap.  Noticed his was a bit separated so I bought the ebay $9 strap.

I clean it after each ride, quickly wiping it down as well as the strap contact area. Take it in the shower with me every second use then wash it with mild soap every ten uses, approximately.  So it's been working flawlessly for 2 years and still on the first ebay strap.  The first strap of 4 that I still have after giving one to Tony,  TC.  They last and work well.  I had been thinking of getting one at the time getting the new Bryton device.  So lucked out with this Garmin TC handed down. Heck perfect unit if you ask me.

This is the model given to me.  Works great with the new $9 strap. πŸ˜„

Yaya! Silicone cover with clip.πŸ‘
