Not sure how you would say multiple Tonys, Tonies? :-P 43 miles with Tony to start. 17.0 average speed. Did run into Paul and George at the start of the ride. Always cool talking to Paul. He had his bike painted so getting there a bit early, I got the rundown on the process. From the dealer to the paint scheme to the little details. Looked pretty cool! Of course, snapped a pic of the two before they drove off. Man, these guys are finishing up their rides most times even before we arrive at the scene ha ha ha!
So Tony and I rode from the train station inland to Yorba Park. He had done a ride a couple days earlier so he said his legs were tender. I like to warm up for a few miles so we did a ride and chat to Yorba. Not too much effort. Once we started heading back, we rode side by side for a bit but then got a taste of the wind so figured we would take a 1 and 1 turn at the front, one mile and one mile.
Somewhere near Lakeview, I saw Mike heading the opposite way. He looked like he was pushing pretty hard. I waved at him but he was so intense that he didn't even see me. But then I realized he had a few riders on his tail. I thought it was his club riders but then realized it was the group that I used to ride with. Oh OK, typical ride. Got one strong guy at the front then the rest sucking wheel and boasting at the end of the ride how strong they are ha ha ha! But looking at their speeds, 16.7 - 16.9 in a group? Yeah, still the same ole group, bunch of wheel suckers ha ha ha! Typical ride, being able to top their speeds alone of with one partner ha ha ha! Who needs the group? :-P
This guy was not with their group but should have been. Heading our way, I was at the front getting ready to pass some guy who is doing a lower rate of speed. I say onyerleft politely but the guy seems to look back for a second then drifts to the center line with nobody around. What a dick! Too many of these fools out there, and seem to be the kind of idiots that post on the cycling forums. Too cool to share the road. So he moves to the center line, ok idiot! Then as soon as we pass, of course the idiot thinks we're friends and wants to take a wheel. Moron!
Then we hit the beach and run into the other Tony. Gina and I met the other Tony about 15 years ago on the trail. Seen him off and on and always wonder about the guy as we have made and lost many friends along the way. So it's always great to see him out there. He is 72 now and still looking strong, and fast!
So the 3 of us headed back, mostly taking turns at the front ha ha ha! But we managed to do a pretty good pace figuring we were all feeling a little old that day ha ha ha!
