Tandem Saturday

So today was a 44 miler with Gina on the tandem at 16.8 average. We took the front for the first 25 miles then moved over for a little help. Got a pull for about 5 then we did another 7 or so looking for more help. Got about another couple of miles then ended up at the front again. I tell ya, good help is hard to find!

Once at the coast we ran into Ron and Dixie. Oh, and a lot of birds. Some real brave bird brains out there ha ha! They love the Clif Bar ha ha! One brave dude was letting me touch him even before I gave him some food. Once I gave him food, it was on! Sitting on my hand gripping my finger chowing down his lunch. I really thought the bird liked me and we had a connection but Dixie says it's because I had food. Meh! Who is Dixie anyway! She doesn't know birds like I do! Just kidding!

Let's mention the fly bys! I like the Strava function so you can tell who is around and identify some of the riders out there. Of course I called it a fly by way before Strava was around when I started taking pics back in like 06.

First there was Jose R and his River velo buddies. Bad Bob heading the opposite way ready to dive bomb us with a head on ha ha! Saw Tammy and her girlfriends out there. Alex heading the opposite way. Haven't been able to capture that guy on his bike with the camera lately. Then there was Mr. Miyagi again. I remember the day he was asking for an ass whooping, he was arguing that he was faster than us and passing us like 3 times. Uh yeah because we would pass him, he would draft, spring then fade. I asked him to stay off us as the women we ride with don't wish to have these dangerous off and on again riders with us. He got upset and threatened to kick my ass. Uhh OK, 5 ft tall and hefty like the heavy bag I used to have for punching practice. Surely this guy's forehead was a target for several quick stiff jabs before the right cross across his jaw that would surely put him to sleep ha ha! So anyway I find this guy on Strava via fly by function. He is doing 19 mile rides at 15.5 averages. Ummm OK! I looked way back in his history and that is about it. You know Gina at her best did an 18.1 on a 44 miler. Recently 17 point somethings on her single bike. Yeah she is drafting me but when you see Mr. Miyagai, he's sucking wheel as much as he can ha ha! So like I told him, he needs to beat Gina before I would even consider racing him  ha ha! I told him my wife was faster than he is and after viewing Strava, I have proof ha ha! Let's see, my 44 miler at 19.3 vs his 19 miler at 15.5??? Who would you put your money on ha ha! nyway, he was out there today sucking wheel on a couple of roadies. More  than likely getting ready to sprint around them and annoy them too. Well at least he wasn't competing with women this time ha ha! Oh, women that would kick his ass ha ha!

OK now the homeless. I know I am supposed to be a caring young man but these people are really rubbing me the wrong way. Some say they are looking for a better life blah blah but in my opinion, they don't give a damn about anybody! So many tents out there. Most on the other side of the river which is good because they cause some major confusion on the trail around bikes.

Some organization goes out there and feeds them every Sunday and man what a mess! Couple weeks back I am just about back to the Orangewood when I run into one of those feed the homeless things. Wow, those people really should be responsible for the safety of the cyclists out there. It's a bike path not a feed zone! These idiots were parking their bikes ACROSS the freaking path! What a bunch of morons I tell ya! Free food, the least they can do is make it safe for everyone else.

the next ride I was just about to drop down into one of the steeper underpasses at the south end of the
golf course. Plenty of cyclist going through and an idiot up on the bank was sweeping dirt onto the trail making a huge cloud of dirt. Guy was actually using a broom to push the dirt onto the trail. I had to shout, "you idiot! You're going to get somebody hurt!!". He says he is trying to clean up.Stupid idiot, what are you doing under there in the first place?!

So if any cyclist has passed under the mess on Katella, you can see they tried to seal it off with steel bars. Sure enough they have been bent and smoke stains along the concrete shows those idiots have set fire to the underpass there.

Not to mention the piss across the trail, the dirt, the glass, the bikes they park there blocking the trail and safety of others. The loose dogs! Hell, these bastards have more rights than I do and they don't pay taxes, or for shit for that matter. I had a dog a few years back. I let him out in the front yard to take a leak. I was cited for having a loose dog, in my yard, with a fence because the gate was not closed. The dog was not going anywhere other than the front lawn but I was cited. These idiots let their dogs loose on the trail around hundreds of cyclists, bullshit!

I guess I really got ticked off today as we stopped at Edna Park. Maybe 5 women waiting to use the restroom and some drug addict bitch was in there taking a shower. Seen the gal before and often she's got the place locked down and smoking some kind of chemical in there. Today she had another gal in there fulling bottles for her so she could shower in the stall while women waited to use the restroom. WTF! Women were asking how long they would be in there and they  would not answer, just kept on their business! Bullshit I say! They need to get these people in check! Bastards have more rights than the rest of us who pay for this shit! :-(

Skank ass drug bitch taking a shower in the stall wile 5 women wait to use the restroom. This idiot helping her fill the bottles.

Nobody at the beach!

Local Midweek Obese Ride!

Just cracking up as one of the topics on a bike forum today was obese people. Yeah I qualify according to the doctors ha ha! So today I rode solo again and decided to head all the way up to the top of San Antonio on my second loop since there was a little segment there averaging 9% average with a short kicker of 12.5% at the top. Short 1/2 of a mile but it hurts ha ha!

Well the 200 lbs class and over on Strava I hit #14 today out of 31 riders this year. Not bad for an obese guy ha ha!

Got in a decent ride, 12 miles with 1,024 ft. Good midweek workout!

Got my cheap safety glasses on top of my helmet. Just about time to switch. That's what happens when you ride from sun up to sun down ha ha!

Rough getting a clear pic riding no hands at night. :-P

More Tandem, Less Rain

Again Gina and I had a chance to ride alone so we again took the tandem. Did a shorter ride of 36 miles while trying to do a more relaxed pace today. Legs still burning from yesterday's tandem ride, first in a while and it is a bit different from singles. Ended up with a 16.5 average though which is not bad.

Forecast said there was about an hour window chance of rain in Anaheim then it would vanish. Well it did start to sprinkle while we were at Edna Park but not hard enough to suggest heading back. Got a bit heavier on down the road near the soccer fields but it seemed we were under a dark cloud so resting under a tree in a dry spot might do the trick. Still wasn't too hard but heck, our butts were sore so it was no biggie ha ha!

It was then Bong and his buddies rolled by giving me a chance to snap a pic. Light showers didn't seem to be stopping so we just said heck with it and headed on to the coast. Little did I know had i waited another 3 or 4 minutes, I would have gotten a good pic of Jose R and his gang. But I missed it, bummer!

Later we say Bad Bob leaving the coast. As we crossed paths he shouted,"IT'S RAINING!!!". Good thing he let us know or we might not have noticed ha ha! It did get a little heavier for a bit as if it might start to pour but it actually dried up. Got lucky and not one drop on the 12 mile return leg home.

Did see Gem near the Circle K where we turned around today. Also Alex at the coast for a little chat.

Bong and his buddies...all 3 pics are the same pic but edited to show different views.

Smile Alex. He said this is trying to smile smile!

People We Know & Airshow (SART)

44 miles at 17.1 on the tandem with Gina today. Haven't been on the tandem in a while and since we had planned to ride alone I figured this was a good time. If you've been on a tandem, you know how it is to try to hold someone's wheel when your stoker has no idea what is going on in front of her. You react, she doesn't equals pain ha ha!

But we did run across Ron & Dixie on their tandem so we helped each other along the way for a while. Figuring Gina hasn't been on the bike much lately, she did really well keeping up with me today on the tandem. No fading, no weak spells which is a blessing while riding the tandem for sure!

We did ride through today instead of our usual rest stop at Edna Park. So this gave Gina 44 PR's on Strava ha ha! :-) I got zero! :-/

Ran across a few people we know out there.

Jose R at the Honda Center rest stop

Shawna and her hubby(yellow) and a buddy. It sure is hard to take a pic while turning off a bridge on a tandem ha ha!

Ron & Dixie ( distant and close up)

Jose R again at Yorba Park

Shawna rolling into Yorba, check out that Colnago!

Ron & Dixie heading to the coast

OK so I don't know her, who's going to argue?!

The airshow, Blue Angels ??????

Couple of bombers out there! :-P

77 yo Steve inline skating champ

Fed Ex stunt plane. He did a few stunts but at a much lower rate of speed

Steve's new skates, $1800 molded to his feet. Wowzer!

Ah Home Sweet Home

Another 12 mile evening ride. Finished right as it was getting dark. 1,040 ft of gain, good midweek exercise. I must be taking the right back roads cause so many cars are very considerate and courteous while I'm out there. :-)

Ah home sweet home after the ride! :-P  OK not really, just a nice looking house up in the nice hood!

Headed up from 13th and San Antonio up to 24th, across then down Euclid, across 17th then again back up San Antonio till I hit 1000 ft of gain for the day. Of course it was near the top so I had to complete it which included that little 10-125 butt kicker at the top ha ha!

Local Midweek Ride

Well I headed out and figured it would get dark by the time I was done, and it did! I only hit 23rd street figuring it was dark about that heading to 24th playing it safe. Go tin 12 miles with 1,012 ft gain.

I did push my self at the top knowing there was a Strava segment there. 4% for 1/2 mile. I set my own PR and so I am 116 out of 430 all time. 12 out of 78 all time over 200 pounds. This year I am 6 out of 25 in the over 200 pound category. Kind of strange but I know one the riders who says he is 200+ and I'm pretty sure he isn't that heavy at like 5 ft tall. Hmmm, Strava people!

Kind of hard to get a good pic at 21 MPH in the dark with no hands! :-P

SART 44 & Lost Water Bottle (Camelback)

Pretty nice ride today. Gina hasn't been on the bike much so I was really expecting her to suffer today. But she didn't! Actually did very well. After the ride she said she was trying really hard but she actually made it look pretty easy. I was in front the whole time just trying to control the pace staying in her comfort zone, but just a wee bit more ha ha! No complaining, no calling me obscene names so yeah I guess she felt OK ha ha!

Saw Herb and Alyce. Hadn't spoken with them in a while so we stopped to chat for a bit. Plus it gave me a chance to snap a pic of Alyce and her new bike (Di2 stuff).

44.2 miles at 16.2 average.

This sad bottle was at the beach stop setting all alone. NO RIDERS around, matter of fact we did not see one cyclist heading our way from Edna Park all the way to the coast and not many heading the opposite direction. I thought it was Christmas day or something ha ha! I know a couple of friends had been at the coast before us so who knows? Maybe it belongs to one of them and they'll get it back. Little things can be expensive ha ha! So if it's yours, let me know!

Crossed paths with Tammy!

Some dude hopped on the back as we rolled by. He was cool, said thanks as we turned off into Yorba Park.

Alyce and her new bike.

Same bird as last week, sitting and eating from Gina's hand.

Ron and Dixie heading to the coast.

Fitty Foh!

Gina's birthday today! 54 years young!

Well I think I made Gina's day today for her birthday! After breakfast i took her to visit her Mom who gave her a gift and had a nice little visit. Then on the way home we passed a little store where Gina worked back when she was 16 years old, 38 years ago! We had passed by several time over the years and she has told me many stories of her time there. This time I told her we should stop to see if the people were still there. She said it was very unlikely but I pulled in anyway. We walked in to find an old Korean guy behind the counter of a pretty empty store, dark and half empty. I asked the guy how long he had been there and he says a long time. Started chatting and sure enough it was the guy. Then he started to recall Gina and her time there working for him. He's 75 now and keeps his shop open because he owns the building though business is slow. But he also has the little missionary shop at the end of the building where he helps guide alcoholics and rehab Korean people. Said he had been in the papers over 500 times throughout the year for doing good in the community. Wife passed away back in 1995. At least he has done good things over the years. He was somewhat timid at first then after a good chat it was funny cause he followed us out to the car and kept talking with us ha ha! It was nice to see Gina spend some time with her mother and this old guy who Gina said had been a father figure to her while she worked there. Nice blast from the past! After that Gina thanked me for making it a memorable birthday! :-) But we weren't done there! We ended up having pizza with Chris and his family as well as Richard and Lil Lizzy! (Sons and grandkids)
